Getting Married

Thinking of getting married or have already tied the knot, SASCU can help you and your spouse consider different financial options and get your accounts in order.

Some key initiatives to consider:

  • Establishing your new name (if applicable) on your Salmon Arm Savings Account. Simply visit one of our branches with your updated information including your marriage certificate, and new personal identification (2 pieces required, one with photo) and fill out a new account application. We will update your information as quickly as possible.
  • Adding a new person to your account – due to the new Privacy Act regulations credit unions are no longer able to add or remove persons from an account. To open an account for both of you, visit your branch. You will need to bring your personal identification (2 pieces required, one with photo). Become a member of the credit union and decide what account is best suited to your needs. Both persons should be in attendance to open the account *special arrangements may be made.
  • Establishing a Joint Account - Visit your branch for joint account information.
  • Cheque re-order to include your spouse - Once you open your new account with you partner, cheques will be issued to you if the account provides this service.
  • Address change – Often couples relocate upon getting married. If your address has changed, come into the branch with your change of address information, or you can fax or email the information to your branch. SASCU will verify confirmation of signatures prior to making the address changes.

Separation/Divorce

During these difficult times, you may require guidance regarding how to proceed in regards to your financial matters.

Certain key financial matters should be considered:

  • Change of Address
  • Account Information and Changes

If a joint account is held, one or both persons are required to close the account. The existing joint account can not be changed to accommodate only one person. A new account is opened upon request.

Set up an appointment with branch staff as soon as your situation changes to ensure accurate account information.

* See branch staff as soon as your situation changes for information and changes needed in regards to your Insurance, RRSP and other legal documents.
