SASCU Community Endowment Fund

SASCU Community Endowment Fund Supports the Shuswap

Giving back to the community is an important part of what we do at SASCU. In the spring of 2009, the SASCU Board of Directors decided to take this commitment a step further. A community endowment fund in support of environmental projects was established – a new fund that will grow in perpetuity with the earned interest invested back into the community each year, forever.

In December 2017, the Board approved an amendment to expand the parameters of the projects that may benefit from the fund. Now included are initiatives that provide access to health or education based opportunities.

SASCU members can be proud of the local projects that have benefitted our communities:

  • Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society (SABNES) - upgrade to public foreshore trail which runs 4 km from Raven subdivision to Marine Park and buoy installations to alert boaters to the area's sensitive habitat
  • SABNES - upgrade to boardwalks and a weed control machine purchased for the 2012 walking season
  • SABNES - new signs for the Foreshore Walking Trail: $2,087.00
  • Eagle Valley Community Support Society - Natural Play-scape Area for Sicamous Resource Centre: 3,000.00
  • Shuswap Hut & Trail Alliance Society - Upper Violet Creek Trail Stiles Project: $355.00
  • Shuswap Hut & Trail Alliance Society - Evelyn Falls Project: $969.00
  • Family Resource and Referral Society - Irrigation for community garden on 30th Ave NE: $2231
  • Shuswap Trail Alliance - Trail Mix, a guide to trails:  $2312

SASCU Youth Endowment Fund

In 2002, SASCU provided $1,500 for the Youth In Philanthropy Program of the Shuswap Community Foundation directed by a Youth Advisory Committee (YACOS).  To support this initiative as a long term commitment, SASCU provided $12,000 over three years to create the SASCU Youth Endowment Fund. The income from the fund supports charitable endeavours for youth in the Shuswap, such as:

2013:     Literacy Alliance for the Shuswap Come Read with Me Parent Handbook - $579
2015:     Parkview Elementary Playground Upgrade - $847
2016:     Royal Canadian Air Cadets Training Program - $934
