Interac Flash® Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get a new SASCU debit card with Interac Flash capability?

When your current debit card expires, you will receive a new SASCU card in the mail. All debit cards will be replaced with the new card by Summer 2016.

2. How do I activate Interac Flash?

You will need to use the chip in your new card and enter your PIN for one transaction before Flash is activated.

3. What's my PIN?

The PIN on your renewal card is the same as your old card.

4. What do I do with my old card?

After you have completed a successful transaction with your new card, please destroy your old one.

5. Do I have to use Interac Flash?

No, you can continue to use your new card by inserting the chip and entering your PIN for every transaction just as you do your old card.

6. How do I use Interac Flash?

You will need to first activate your new card with a Chip and PIN transaction. Then at merchant terminals displaying the Flash symbol, you can use the service:

   1) Hold your card no more than 4 cm. in front of the terminal at the time of purchase.

   2) Wait for a beep and/or "approved" message confirming your transaction is complete.

The funds are automatically debited from your account and your transaction shows in your banking activity.

7. What happens if my card is lost or stolen?

Immediately report your lost or stolen Member Card. During regular business hours, call SASCU at 250.832.8011.

8. Is Interac Flash secure?

Yes. Your new card uses three layers of security:

   1) Technology - It leverages the secure chip technology and unique Interac Flash functionality to keep you, your data, and finances safe. Learn more about Chip technology here. and Interac Flash security features here.

   2) Limits - Interac Flash purchases are limited to $100 per time. Plus users must enter the card's PIN after $200 in Interac Flash purchases. This verifies the correct person has the card.

  3) Zero Liability - That's right. If your card were lost or stolen, you are reimbursed for any unauthorized transactions under the Interac Zero Liability Policy. Remember to report your lost or stolen card as soon as possible.

9. Can I use Interac Flash outside of Canada?

No, Interac Flash only functions within Canada at terminals where the Flash symbol is displayed. You can swipe the magnetic stripe or insert your new card and enter your PIN outside of Canada.
