Meet the Board >

There are three 3-year terms to be filled.

There are a number of skills and backgrounds that contribute to a well-rounded board. Each Director is not expected to have all of these; the strength of a Board pools the diverse collective knowledge and experience to benefit the credit union.

This year, the Board is particularly seeking those with digital & technology or risk management experience.

Check out the Eligibility section for details.

Candidates are required to participate in an interview with two members of the Nominating Committee. The interview will help assess each candidate's merit against objective criteria with the intent to diversify the Board's composition. Those that the Committee determines best meet these criteria will be recommended as ‘recommended’ to our membership in the election voting materials.

Download the Board of Director Candidate Information Package in Resource Links below - this will provide detailed information of what is required. You can also watch the Information Session recording under the Key Dates tab.

Directors receive payment for meetings (currently $350/meeting), mileage reimbursement, conference and training per diems and reimbursement for reasonable expenses.

Your first year is focused on learning, onboarding, and becoming familiar with SASCU's governance responsibilities. While there is a learning curve, you won't be expected to know everything on day one.

New directors attend an orientation, are paired with an experienced director mentor, and complete foundational governance, anti-money laundering, privacy, and Indigenous awareness training. SASCU also supports ongoing development through courses, webinars, conferences, and the national Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA) program.

Directors typically spend approximately 15 to 20 hours per month on board-related responsibilities. This includes reviewing meeting materials in advance, attending quarterly Board and Committee meetings, and participating in the Board team building event, annual strategic planning session and Annual General Meeting. Directors are expected to come prepared and actively contribute their perspectives to Board discussions.

Most importantly, your first year is about gaining confidence in the role, understanding SASCU's business and strategy, and contributing your unique skills and experience as part of a collaborative governance team. You do not need to be a financial expert; SASCU values diverse perspectives and backgrounds that strengthen Board decision-making.
