Big Renovations for Credit Union in Sicamous

SALMON ARM (March 1, 2024) — SASCU Credit Union’s Sicamous Branch is set for renovation!
Construction gets underway this month with temporary banking services now being set up in a portion of the space. A trailer will also be brought onsite to provide additional office and equipment room. Hours remain the same. The public are being encouraged to expect a whole new branch when it fully re-opens December 2024.

“I am extremely happy for our Sicamous-based members, our staff, and the community that this work is getting underway,” said SASCU President and CEO Barry Delaney. “This investment reflects our appreciation of our history in Sicamous but even more so, it’s an indication of the future we see for the community."

The tender process that closed last month confirms the majority of the construction will be carried out by local tradespeople.

“The new branch will be one that any community would be proud of and, more importantly, will serve our members in the best way possible for years to come,” added Delaney.

A completely new design supported with proven technologies will provide a modern banking experience, enhancing how SASCU will serve their members. Throughout the branch are inspirations from Sicamous itself. New features include a community room for non-profit bookings and an education centre where members can gain hands on learning to improve their financial confidence and well-being. Children will enjoy the new SASCU Kids’ Quarters while their parents will welcome the comfort of their favourite coffee beverage from the new café. The better use of space and adoption of digital capabilities, including a move from paper to electronic files, will allow the branch a smaller footprint after the renovation is complete.

Members will be served all through construction, which begins March 26. “It won’t always be pretty or quiet, but we will make sure your banking needs are taken care of,” assured Sicamous Branch Manager Eldon Kralkay. “We ask for member and staff patience and flexibility during this necessary period to complete this great rebuild.”

The objective is to retain normal operating hours throughout, though some services will be temporarily impacted to accommodate the work:

    • Access to safety deposit boxes could be at times impacted, requiring wait times.
    • The coin counter service will be unavailable throughout construction.
    • There will be no public washrooms.
    • Due to space restrictions inside, those with mobility scooters or wheelchairs will be served outside the front doors at a special kiosk for easy access.
    • The lobby ATM will be temporarily out of service for a period of construction. The drive through ATM will remain unaffected.
Previews of the new branch will be released in coming weeks.

Eagle River Credit Union merged with SASCU in 1975, making the re-opening of Sicamous Branch just shy of its 50th anniversary with SASCU. The branch moved to its current location in 1997.
