SASCU Launches New Grant Program
Salmon Arm, BC – August 11, 2025 —SASCU Credit Union has reimagined how it gives back to the community by launching a new grant program that helps build a more resilient and thriving region. This is part of SASCU’s promise to “Raise the Shuswap”, which means helping people feel more confident, make better choices, and grow their future here at home.
The first round of this new program is called the Empowerment Grant. It is focused on strengthening economic progress. Whether it is giving people new skills, helping small businesses grow, or supporting local groups in becoming more self-reliant, this grant is here to move the dial on what matters most to our region.
“There are so many great ideas in our communities,” said SASCU President and CEO, Barry Delaney. “This grant helps turn those ideas into action.”
The Empowerment Grant will give out approximately $50,000 this fall. Groups can apply between August 11 and October 15, and the money will go to projects that help with things like:
- Education and workforce development to improve job skills and create employment opportunities
- Innovative business or co-operative projects that support economic growth and resilience
- Strengthening nonprofit and volunteer organizations through training in planning, budgeting, and governance
SASCU’s community support will continue to include donations, sponsorships, and other hands-on help. “We will still be supporting local events, festivals, youth programs, and grassroots projects through funding, tent loans, and volunteer hours from our staff Community Crew,” said Dave Witt, Chair of the SASCU Community Engagement Committee of the Board. “You’ll still see us showing up in the community and lending a hand where it’s needed most. What’s new is how we’re focusing part of our support on bigger, specific needs where we can make a meaningful impact. By making this change, we believe our community dollars will go further and help build a stronger Shuswap for everyone.”
