SASCU Throws Birthday Party to Celebrate 80 Years

SALMON ARM (October 15, 2026) — SASCU Credit Union opened its doors to community members to help mark its 80th birthday on Thursday, October 15. Lots of celebrations were packed into the day, including International Credit Union Day and the awarding of donations to Community Halls in the region.

“Since 1946, SASCU has been part of the Shuswap, investing in its growth, financing people’s dreams, and bringing confidence to their financial journeys,” said Barry Delaney, President and CEO of SASCU Credit Union.  “We have changed a lot since 14 orchardists got together to form the credit union and will undoubtedly keep evolving to continue meeting our members’ needs.”

SASCU Board Chair Steven DeBoer echoed the sentiment. “SASCU has played an important role in the Shuswap throughout the past eighty years and we will continue to do so for the next eighty.”

The day included all the typical birthday festivities: balloons, noisemakers, and cake! Salmon Arm branches also received special visits from Finley the Fox, SASCU’s mascot.

A special moment was welcoming representatives from seven Community Halls who were selected as recipients of donations to mark the occasion at the Downtown Branch. In honour of SASCU’s 80 years, the Community Impact Term Deposit was created and offered with a special rate to investors. Plus, for every dollar invested, SASCU committed to donating an additional quarter percent to select community hall from across the Shuswap.

“When we saw the need expressed by the halls, we opted to double the amount raised,” said Delaney. “This provided $40,000 in donations to these important community infrastructures.”

Recipients included Lakeview Community Centre ($2,000), Silver Creek Community Hall ($2,000), Enderby Hub ($2,000), Gleneden Community Hall ($5,000), Notch Hill Community Hall ($6,000), Blind Bay Community Hall ($8,000), and Sorrento Community Hall ($15,000).

“This is just another example of how when you invest with SASCU, the whole community grows,” added Delaney.
