Overview

SASCU’s grant program is a structured, semi-annual funding process designed to focus community investment on high-impact themes that align with SASCU’s core values.

Our goal is to make strategic investments that build a stronger, more resilient Shuswap. Applications are reviewed and approved by the Community Engagement Committee during its March and November meetings.

 

Green Resilience Grant (Spring 2026 Cycle)

The Green Resilience Grant supports innovative local projects that promote sustainability and implement green practices and solutions that also enhance community and business resilience.

About the Green Resilience Grant

At SASCU, we’re committed to Raising the Shuswap, supporting confidence, better choices, and economic well-being in our communities.

This new grant empowers local organizations, small businesses, and community groups to reduce environmental impacts, improve resource efficiency, and help our region adapt to changing climate and economic conditions. Collaboration among groups is encouraged.


Please note: Grant funds will only be awarded to nonprofits or community groups, even if businesses or for-profit organizations participate in the project.

Application Dates: December 1st, 2025 – February 6th, 2026

Decisions are made by the Community Engagement Committee of the SASCU Board of Directors.

  • Grant recipients will have 12 months to utilize the funds from the date of disbursement.
  • There are no multi-year disbursements or renewals.
  • Total funding available: $35,000. This amount may be awarded to one applicant or divided among multiple recipients, depending on the strength of the submissions. Please note that SASCU is not obligated to distribute all or any of the funds if applications do not meet the grant criteria
  • Grants may be awarded in full or split among multiple projects.
  • Recipients must submit a mid-project report including performance tracking and submit an impact story upon project completion, outlining the outcomes and how the grant supported empowerment in the region.
  • Green Innovation & Collaboration – Initiatives that build practical, on-the-ground partnerships between businesses, nonprofits, or co-ops to create environmentally resilient solutions that can be implemented within one year.
  • Community Environmental Resilience – Projects that strengthen environmental systems or community infrastructure to withstand climate impacts, improve resource management, or support long-term sustainability.
  • Environmental Education & Skills Development – Action-driven efforts that apply sustainable methods or climate adaptation strategies in real-world settings, creating immediate environmental benefits.

This grant is intended for action-oriented projects rather than research or long-term planning. It is distinct from the SASCU Community Endowment - Shuswap Community Foundation, which is held at the Shuswap Community Foundation, as SASCU is seeking proposals that create a direct, tangible impact within one year of receiving funding.
 

Here are some examples of what the Green Resilience Grant might support:

Community Water Stations

Accessible water bottle refill stations that reduce reliance on single-use plastic containers. This is encouraged because it:

  • Reduces plastic waste in the community.
  • Promotes sustainable hydration options and healthier lifestyles.
  • Provides a visible, tangible environmental benefit that can be implemented quickly.

Green Supply Chains

Projects that adapt or develop resources to be more sustainable, such as sourcing locally, using renewable materials, or planning for end-of-life reuse. This is encouraged because it:

  • Minimizes environmental impact through reduced transportation and resource use.
  • Supports local businesses and sustainable economic practices.
  • Encourages long-term adoption of environmentally responsible production and consumption practices.

Sustainability Practices

Action-driven initiatives that engage groups or communities in sustainability practices or climate adaptation strategies. This is encouraged because it:

  • Demonstrates practical, on-the-ground environmental improvements.
  • Builds community resilience to climate impacts.
  • Creates immediate, measurable environmental benefits within the community.

Grant decisions will be announced March 16, 2026 following presentations from selected finalists.
